DECLINE REASONS

The character to the left of the 'D' in the auth_num response indicates the reason for the check being declined.
Example     "DECLINED 1234D"     The 4 indicates the reason

4th Character Reason
1 This person has a bad check on record
2 Too Many Checks. This customer has written too many checks in the period of risk for your store. Each store is set up to allow so many checks from each customer over a given number of days. If that number is exceeded, the check will be declined. This is done to protect the store from one of the more common types of fraud.
3 Over limit The check amount in conjunction with the check number is over the limit we are willing to accept. This may also be due to the number of checks presented by the customer over a given time period.
4 Out of State The check is from out of state. For most stores it should not be accepted since there is a much higher probability the check is bad.
5 Under 200 The check number is under 200. These checks account for 70% of all bad checks. There are additional restrictions placed on the size of checks that are under number 200 that will be accepted.
6 Same Check This check was presented on a prior date. A check may only be presented on one day.
7 Checks out of Order This check is not of a higher check number than the last one presented by the customer. Normally check numbers should increase as they are being used.
8 Expired LicenseThe drivers license entered is expired. This check can not be authorized.
9 Same Check Different Amount This check was already authorized for a different amount on a prior transaction.
A Different License This check was run through before using a different license.
B Split Check Purchase It appears the purchase is being paid with multiple checks.
C Already Bounced This check has already bounced.
D Check Cashing It appears this is being presented for cash. Unless otherwise noted this service is not to be used for check cashing.
E In Valid License It appears the license used is not actually a drivers license or state issued ID card.
F Too many Licenses There have been 3 or more licenses used with this one account. This is often times an indication the checks are stolen.
G Down Payment too Small This indicates the down payment on an Arc Transaction was too small or non existant. The dwn payment should be for a similar amount as the future dated payments so we can make an accurate authorization based on the true risk of the transaction. If the down payment is too small it may result in a false authorization that will be returned unpaid. By having all the checks in a transaction for a similar amount it will reduce the amount of chargebacks for the merchants and reduce overall risk.
H Ths indicates the monthly income wasn't high enough for this sale.
The monthly income must be at least double this sale amount.
If the customer has a spouse residing in the same household their income may be included.
Y Customer Age The customer is under 18. If the check bounces they can't be held liable for payment.
